Lipstick can make your teeth look whiter!

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

Yes, to some degree. However, if your teeth are very badly stained, no lip colour will help. But if your teeth have a yellowish cast, lipsticks with a blue undertone - plums, wines, violets and pinks, can make them appear less yellow. Beware of corals and oranges, which will have the opposite effect.

Zap the make-up bugs!

Clean out your make-up bag and wash through all your make-up brushes in a light soapy solution. Every day we use our make-up brushes and sponges by wiping them over our face and pores. we then return them to the bag and leave them for a further day, slightly damp - perfect conditions for germs to thrive.

A quick shampoo for brushes and sponges will detox your make-up bag.

How to pick the perfect face slimmer

For sharper cheekbones - a powder highlighter looks natural, and as it catches the light, gives as great definition to your face. For daytime, choose one without too much glitter.

For lifted browbones - a highlighting wand is really easy to use around the eye area and less messy than powders. Highlighting your eyes makes the entre of your face the focus so the outer bits seem to vanish.

For a fuller mouth - blending a pencil highlighter in a light shade all around the outside of your lips makes them look magically fuller and the rest of your face instantly narrower.

How to get a slimmer face

1. Prime. Start with a good base. Apply foundation all over your face and use concealer to disguise any individual blemishes. Then gently dust a loose powder in the same shade as your skin over the top to give you a good ‘canvas’ to work on.

2. Shade. Using a soft powder brush, apply a pressed powder that’s one shade darker than your natural skin tone, or a sparkle-free bronzer to your face. Start by sweeping the brush across your forehead, then down the hairline past your ears and along your jawline. This will make your face look narrower because the shadeed area seems to ‘disappear’. Go gently so you don’t get an obvious line.

3. Define. Next, brush the same powder underneath your cheekbones and up towards your hairline to define your face. Finally, use a blusher brush to add a pinky-toned hue to the apples of your cheeks, sweeping diagonally upwards. Be careful not to end up with ’stripes’ - they won’t make you look thinner, just dated.

Face slimming tip

Stand in front of the mirror with artificial light shining on you from above. Where the light hits is where you need to put the bronzer to lose pounds from your face.
